This is the first night walk to view Christmas decorations that I’ve done since 2011. I’ve never done the SA Riverwalk at night. The walk started at the oldest and probably most beautiful VFW Post in Texas.
VFW Post 76 was chartered June 15, 1917. The organizers were veterans of the Spanish American War.
We got there early and saw Ellen chatting with some people in the outdoor seating area.
Sheri, Linda, Pricilla and Ellen waiting for the start table to open.
Susan stamping books before we head out to walk.
The archway above the steps leading down to the riverwalk.
We headed south on the Riverwalk and soon past the dam and locks.
It was just starting to get dark. Ed with the decorated light pole.
Noticed this hands decorating a bridge above us.
Pavilion across the river made of cement but looks like trees.
Flowers were blooming along the walkway.
Mosaic portrait of Texas patriot and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, Jose Navarro, below the Navarro Street Bridge.
Ed posed for me on “Bernard’s Bench” another Mosiac Creation.
We passed a waterfall.
We climbed the steps from the Riverwalk up to Main Plaza to view the Church and Courthouse.
San Fernando Cathedral
Purple Heart Memorial
Bexar County Courthouse completed in 1896.
Across from the courthouse.
Cast Iron Fountain called “Lady Justice” in front of the courthouse.
The walk route returned to the Riverwalk.
Moon Flowers in bloom.
Like most of the San Antonio River Walk, this bridge was constructed by the W.P.A between 1929 and 1941.
Grass seating at the amphitheater of the Arseson Theater.
We climbed the steps at the Theater and went back to Street Level.
Tower of the Americas lit up in the distance.
One of the stained glass windows in St Joseph Catholic Church
Ed with statue outside of Pat O’Brien
Christmas Tree in front of Alamo.
Ed in front of that same tree.
Toribio Losoya, An Unsung Hero of the Alamo.
For sale in the window of Garcia Art Glass Studio.
We went back down steps returning to the Riverwalk.
Another beautiful stone bridge.
Another mosaic this one of the skyline of San Antonio.
Tree covered in white lights.
The decorations at the dam and locks are not brightly lit.
Back at the finish the VFW brightly lit also.
Looking back at the archway over the entrance as we leave.
